Major Pharma Wholesale Distributor's Transition to LSPedia

Client Overview

A major pharmaceutical company is a leading wholesaler of generic prescription medications in the U.S., serving 8,000 customers including independent pharmacies, long-term care organizations, and specialty pharmacies. Operating three NABP-accredited distribution centers and sourcing products exclusively from FDA-approved manufacturers, the company is dedicated to providing top-notch service, value, integrity, and supply chain security.

Challenge

The company's legacy DSCSA solution encountered significant issues following a major upgrade in March 2024. Intended to resolve problems like poor data quality, orphaned SSCCs, and missing product data, the upgrade instead caused a severe incident. System bugs rendered operations non-functional, leading to halted inbound shipments, inventory shortages, and major disruptions in customer orders. Despite the company's efforts to resolve the issue, including escalating to the C-suite, the situation was at a standstill for days with no acknowledgment and later a slow response from the legacy vendor. The incident lasted over a week, pushing the company to the brink of a major crisis and raising concerns about compliance with upcoming DSCSA regulations.

Solution

In response to these challenges, the distributor evaluated new solutions and met with LSPedia on April 5, 2024. Following a thorough review, the decision was made to transition to LSPedia's OneScan suite. The agreement, signed on May 17, 2024, included the Exchange, EPCIS, VRS, Connector, Investigator, and Customer Portal modules. The plan involved connecting with 200 suppliers and 8,000 customers, safeguarding data quality, and integrating with Sage 100 using OneScan's standard APIs. The transition aimed to be completed within 60 days ensuring minimal operational disruption and improved DSCSA workflow and compliance.

Results

The project kicked off on May 22, 2024, and LSPedia's OneScan went live on July 15, 2024, 7 days ahead of schedule. The distributor now efficiently processes hundreds of inbound orders from suppliers and ships thousands of orders to customers with high-quality EPCIS data exchange. The successful implementation of OneScan has resolved previous system issues and enhanced DSCSA compliance and operational efficiency.

Conclusion

The transition to LSPedia has been a transformative success for the distributor, providing a robust and reliable solution that meets its compliance and operational needs. The swift implementation and seamless integration of OneScan have reinforced the distributor's commitment to service excellence and business continuity.
