LSPediA Starts FDA DSCSA Pilot Program Using VRS for Verification/Notification and Interoperability

Farmington Hills, Michigan, July 24, 2019 – LSPediA Inc., a leading software and service provider for the pharmaceutical industry, today announced the launch of its FDA pilot utilizing LSPediA’s Verification Router Service for prescription drug product verification, notification, and supply-chain interoperability. This pilot includes Top 10 pharmaceutical wholesalers, generic and branded pharma manufacturers, and chain drug stores.

LSPediA Starts FDA DSCSA Pilot Program Using VRS for Verification/Notification and InteroperabilityThe LSPediA pilot tracks end-to-end supply chain transactions utilizing the product identifier, specifically the 2D data matrix barcode, for drug product verification and tracing. Using LSPediA’s OneScan® VRS solution, the trading partners gain expanded technical capabilities to authenticate prescription products, manage exceptions, and deter counterfeiting while maintaining impeccable audit trails of who, where, when, and how of each event.

“The pharmaceutical supply chain and the U.S. healthcare system face big changes today — and we are committed to being at the forefront of solving the challenges,” stated Michael Ventura, Vice President of Solutions and Innovations at LSPediA. “The development of wider ecosystem and the adoption of advanced technologies are important factors in establishing the interoperable electronic system by 2023. We are thrilled to assist the FDA and members of the pharmaceutical distribution supply chain in utilizing the OneScan® foundation upon which greater interoperability is built.”

Verifications performed in real time

The pilot facilitates live 2D barcode verifications performed by the wholesalers and chain drug stores by scanning the on-hand inventory at distribution centers and in stores. The pilot also facilitates exceptions management with seeded mock products testing five negative verification scenarios. All verifications are performed in real time with sub-second response time from LSPediA’s OneScan® solution.

“We’re committed to utilize the barcode enabled products and technologies to improve quality, security, and safety throughout the healthcare supply chain. LSPediA’s FDA DSCSA VRS Pilot is the perfect vehicle for DSCSA’s verification requirement and the adoption of advanced technology for interoperability. The Pilot offers an environment where we collaborate with manufacturers and healthcare providers, perform real time scans, and test real world barcode exception scenarios,” said a leading wholesale distributor. “We value LSPediA’s solution capability and their ability to get our people to adopt new ways of processing serialized products. The pilot allows us to embrace the change before it disrupts us.”

LSPediA will analyze the results and make recommendations based on the findings that will be helpful in streamlining the verification process and incorporate best industry practices for meeting compliance requirements. Looking ahead to the 2023 interoperability requirements, the LSPediA pilot plans to define the interoperability process at key supply chain points using the power of scanning technology and the unique product identifier.
